Charity Game

For those of you that couldn’t make it along to the charity game on the 11th July you missed a treat . It was great to see all the old boys again to mark 10 years since our promotion  to the football league in what was a meteoric two years. The legs might not have travelled too fast but the brains were still there as we played against a fans squad in what was a very enjoyable afternoon . Even though some of the boys couldn’t have seen each other for a few years the banter was rocking right from the off and it just goes to show what a great team spirit we had. Its amazing that you never really appreciate it whilst your in amongst that environment , but looking back as I have on a number of occasions it was a very memorable time and special squad. Despite the differing personalities there was a great camaraderie , never more evident than when it was someone’s birthday . Examples  being dragging Dale Watkins through the muddy pitches at The Folly training ground until his training gear was falling off him with the weight. Making Steve Book walk naked up the road to the Hardwick campus from the Folly and waving at all the passers by in  their cars. Good job there were no police about!!! Myself and Michael Duff , whose birthdays are a day apart , were the recipients of a mass attack from the boys , particularly Chris Banks who the night before had made up a concoction of raw eggs  , flour and brown sauce. Not particularly pleasant when it is smeared all over you and sticks everywhere. I  loved a bit of  brown sauce at the time but it took me a good 6 months to go near the stuff after that . Having to train for a couple of hours with Banks’ broth stuck to you is not recommended . There are loads more to recall but maybe for another time .
